The air in the dimly lit room smelled of stale energy drinks and ozone. Leo leaned into his monitor, his eyes reflecting the neon glow of a forum page he’d spent hours hunting down. The cursor hovered over a pixelated button:
The monitor went black. In the reflection of the glass, Leo saw his webcam’s little white light blink on. He reached for the power cord, but his hands were shaking. He had wanted to win the game, but he realized too late that by downloading the mod, he had let the game play him.
